Customer Lifecycle

Merchant customers begin as merchant-owned records with an opaque placeholder consumer relationship.

Later, a verified consumer may approve linking. One verified consumer can be associated with multiple merchant customer records, but merchants cannot discover other merchant relationships.

Merchants may update merchant-owned fields such as display name, email and external reference. Merchants cannot change consumer identity, ownership, mandates or authorisation state through customer update endpoints.
